Mental Health Awareness

June 13, 2019

Today I want to show my support and appreciation for the hard work my friend Katrina Mazier puts into raising awareness of suicide prevention.

I knew Katrina in High School but only recently did I find out what she has been through. Katrina’s efforts are fueled by personal experience. Her story doesn’t just entail mental health though. It includes sexual assault. It includes having a tough home life. It includes struggling at school. It includes bullying. This affected her mental health and then feed into potential suicide.”

Katrina states, “I just finally decided that I didn't want to live anymore.”

After her suicide attempt, she took her past experiences and used them to help others, raise awareness and make other peoples' lives better.

That's when she started work with the Miss America organization.

"I tell people that the Miss America organization saved my life."

Katrina works so hard to make others see their worth. She inspires me with everything she does. This week is the Miss Wisconsin Competition and tonight I will see Katrina perform her talent in the competition. I always look forward to seeing her and supporting her in this journey. I am so glad that she has found her platform and her voice.

Follow her and her amazing message on her Facebook page: Irreplaceable – Suicide Prevention Awareness

"This page is dedicated to suicide prevention awareness, signs, coping mechanisms and much more! Lets save lives together!

Thirteen months ago, my struggle with depression came to a breaking point, putting me in a position to choose life or death. Since that fateful day, I decided to become the best version of myself that I can be through school, community involvement, my platform as Miss Appleton’s Outstanding Teen, and my ability to reach out to others. Being on the Wisconsin Mock Trial Team and recently speaking at numerous organizations and schools, I have honed my public speaking skills. Now, I plan to use my personal story of my struggles and my communication skills to help others."
